The NFL has been going through a lot this season with off-the-field issues, and none is bigger than the situation involving Adrian Peterson right now. Peterson has been the best running back in the NFL for quite some time, but now it appears that the person that many believed he was, might not actually be the truth. All of this started when Peterson was accused of child abuse for spanking his son with a switch and leaving cuts on his body, but it has snowballed into a much bigger investigation.

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, there is “little to no chance” that Peterson will play in 2014.

Peterson was hoping to push the trial up to December in order to get that over with so that he could get back on the field. That may end up happening, but whether or not he is found guilty, Cole says that he is unlikely to play in 2014. Even if he is found not guilty in his trial, the NFL will likely have some sort of suspension ready for him when he returns to the Vikings.

It’s too early to speculate on everything that is going on with Peterson and what he might be guilty of, but this has been a very disappointing situation for NFL fans. Peterson has lost a lot of respect from former fans, and will be facing a completely different reaction when and if he returns to football. The NFL will likely have a fairly hefty suspension for Peterson if he is acquitted, and he will be away from the game for awhile

Hopefully the case ends up not being as serious as it seems at this point in time, and Peterson can come away with some of his reputation still intact. That being said, if he is guilty, he needs to be punished accordingly regardless of his fame. More details will continue coming out about Peterson’s case over the next few weeks, so stay tuned to FanSided.com’s coverage.
