Coming into this NFL season, everyone believed that we could finally see the San Francisco 49ers debut of former South Carolina standout Marcus Lattimore. While he has not been on the active roster so far through five weeks of the season, that debut could be coming very shortly.

According to a report from the Sacramento Bee, Lattimore is making some good progress and he could be allowed to practice with the team following their bye in Week 8. If all goes well in the practices, then he could be activated to the team’s 53-man roster right before their game with the New York Giants three weeks after.

As has been the case since he took a chance on drafting him in 2013, head coach Jim Harbaugh said that he wants to put Lattimore in the best possible scenario to succeed.

“He hasn’t played football in a year-and-a-half and we could simulate a good three-week training camp period,” Harbaugh said. “And then activate after that and turn him loose. But give him the best possible scenario to help the football team and for him to be at his best. Right now, that seems wise.”

Lattimore was considered maybe the best back in college football two years ago, until a gruesome knee injury in a game against Tennessee nearly derailed his football career for good.

Now it appears that we are close to seeing one of the more miraculous comebacks from injury in history within the next few weeks.
