Rusell Martin interested in joining the Red Sox
After a disappointing exit from the playoffs in a one game wildcard game, the Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t been shy about the fact that they want to keep free agent catcher Russell Martin in Pittsburgh. However, Martin will be a highly sought after free agent this off season and with big market, high payroll teams with their eyes on him it could drive Martin’s value out of the Pirates’ price range.

One of those high roller teams that could be a landing spot for Martin is the Boston Red Sox. Many have speculated they could take a run at Martin to fill a need behind the plate and now Russell Martin has admitted interest in Boston as well.
In a recent interview with WEEI in Boston Martin had this to say on the idea of him playing in Bsoton:
"“It’s definitely a place to consider if the option is there,” Martin told WEEI. “It’€™s a great baseball town. People love their baseball. For the most part they’€™ve always been competitive. They’€™ve got a great team. Pedroia is one of personal favorites. I love the way he competes so it would be a pleasure playing with him.”"
While obviously this whole free agency process will have to play out, the Pirates might have something to worry about. If the Red Sox really have their sights set on Martin and he has mutual interest, it could very well lead to his departure from Pittsburgh.
