NBA rookies need to learn their place in the league. If your teammate is calling you by the wrong name, it’s your job to play well enough to make him know your real one.

I guess when everyone was calling Chicago Bulls rookie Doug McDermott “Dougie McBuckets,” Aaron Brooks was a little too confused.
From Comcast Sports Net Chicago’s Chuck Garfien:
Aaron Brooks calls Doug McDermott "Ray." Why? "I thought that was his name. When I found out that it wasn't, I just kept calling him Ray."

Is McDermott fine with Aaron Brooks calling him Ray? Brooks: "He's a rookie, he doesn't really have a choice."

While ‘McBuckets’ isn’t a killer nickname, ‘Ray’ certainly is the most bland, nonsensical nickname in league history. I kind of hope it catches on in an ironic way.
I’m not sure where ‘Ray’ came from, but the fact that Brooks is owning this mistake is awesome. You know he’s just doing it because McDermott is a rookie, and that is probably okay. However McDermott, who said he is sure he’ll be called Ray for the rest of the season, is handling it the best he can. According to Garfien, he’ll be calling Brooks ‘Ron.’
So when bloggers start referring to Brooks as ‘Ron’ and McDermott as ‘Ray’ don’t be thrown off. Now you know where it came from. Yeah, that probably won’t happen anyway.
