After a 33-28 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans’ star defensive end J.J. Watt is telling his team not to panic

The Houston Texans lost their second straight game after a horrid start against the Indianapolis Colts. The team has played promising football in the first six weeks of the season despite scant expectations and to lose a game like Thursday’s when the difference was what the Colts did in the first quarter — and what the Texans didn’t do — can be difficult to digest. Don’t tell J.J. Watt it’s time to change anything though. For him, it’s all about staying ready for the next game and not pressing the panic button.

“It is a tough loss; it is frustrating,” Watt said, per ESPN, after the Texans lost 33-28 to the Colts on Thursday Night Football. “But I really don’t think that it’s — it’s definitely not time to panic. There is no doubt about that. It’s not time to panic. The way this team fights, and the way that these guys battle, and the way we go out there and we give what we have. We just can’t give team 24 points to start a game.”

Watt, of course, is correct. The Texans have a decent football team and in the beleaguered AFC, that could be enough to snag a wild card berth. The problem has been how the team starts. They fell to 24-0 after the first quarter against the Colts, which doomed them despite the team outscoring Indy 28-9 the rest of the way.

The Texans don’t need to panic, but they do need to focus and they need to stop giving away the ball. The team can’t count on Watt scoring a touchdown every week, like he did against the Colts once again in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game.

“Big play, but at the end of the day, not enough,” Watt said. “Gotta find a way to do more.”
