The Green Bay Packers could use an even split of Eddie Lacy and James Starks
The Green Bay Packers finally have their offense playing at a high level and it has a lot to do with the running game getting going. Eddie Lacy started the season off slow, but he finally came through with a big game last week against the Miami Dolphins. James Starks also received a nice amount of carries and it appears that the Packers might move forward using both Starks and Lacy in even roles to keep both players fresh throughout the course of the game.

“To keep them fresh, I think is very important. To keep them fresh throughout the course of a game because we want to obviously get into a rhythm and get going. James has warranted playing time. He’s done well whenever he’s gotten the ball. Eddie is still doing the same. He’s the guy. We’re going to go out and feature all those guys.”
Both players bring different skills to the field and it will gives defenses a much more difficult task of defending them. Lacy is a much bigger back that runs over defenders while Starks has more speed and is a much more elusive back. Combining both of their skills makes for a dangerous duo and the Packers believe that they will continue working well together with split carries.
There is no doubt that Lacy is the better overall running back, but Starks brings the speed that Lacy simply can’t duplicate. Both players are solid as receivers out of the backfield as well, which is always a good thing for Aaron Rodgers. The offense needs the ground game to play at a high level in order to play to their pull potential and that showed last week against the Minnesota Vikings.
Green Bay is going up against the NFL’s 13th-ranked run defense on Sunday when they play the Miami Dolphins and they will need both running backs to compliment each other and come through.
“I think that was definitely part of what Coach Mike wants. He likes balance, freshness, keep guys in ready to go. So as long as we can keep that going, which I don’t see a reason why we can’t because there’s no plays that James runs that Eddie can’t or vice versa. We train the guys as complete backs to play first through third down. And when you’re in there, whatever is called, whether it’s gun or under center, it doesn’t matter, we’ve got to make it work.”
Obviously Packers fans can expect to see a healthy dosage of both Lacy and Starks for the foreseeable future.
