With news breaking on Thursday about Georgia RB Todd Gurley receiving money for signing his name at autograph sessions, everyone knew that some kind of suspension was coming. While that has not been officially decided, the word is that it will be at least two weeks.
If you ever want to feel the true pulse of the people, go to Twitter. So that’s what I did in trying to find out just how the masses felt about the impending suspension.
Of course, there were several comparisons to Johnny Manziel’s autograph signing that got him suspended for the first half of Texas A&M’s opening game against Rice  last season.
@jaymurph_O3 The Johnny football case is the play here. The NCAA was ok with giving him a half suspension for what he did. Why not Gurley

Johnny Manziel makes 7000 dollars of autographs=1/2 game
— Grant Bilderback (@gbilderbear) October 10, 2014
Todd Gurley makes 400$ (not even proven) off autograph, under investigation.
Gurley gets a little $ for signing stuff and is suspended indefinitely. Manziel burns down an orphanage and gets suspended for a half. #NCAA

"@JayBilas: Using Johnny Manziel as precedent, the NCAA contemplates Todd Gurley's punishment. pic.twitter.com/BG2euKM5I9" @DunkData

If Johnny Football gets a half so should Gurley!!!! #GiveUsGurleyOrGiveUsFreedom #SECedeFromNCAA
— Justin Murphy (@jaymurph_O3) October 10, 2014
From what I've read, Gurley definitely deserves to be suspended, but Manziel only missed half a game... So what is this "indefinitely" crap?

Then there are those that think that this whole thing is a waste of time:
How the hell are Gurley's services worth 30k a year? That's one Saturday in hot dog and m&m sales for UGA.
— 🦦✨America Is Musty✨🦦 (@DragonflyJonez) October 10, 2014
I don't condone breaking rules. But no one will ever convince me that Todd Gurley getting paid for signing his name harms anyone.
— Mike Greenberg (@Espngreeny) October 10, 2014
Power 5 college football conferences w/playoff now will double what BCS paid them to $50m, yet #Gurley is out for xtra $400 #occupythencaa

Todd Gurley got suspended for SIGNING HIS NAME

Then there are those that are after the accuser:
Todd gurley. When this is over let's sue the accuser for slander. Then we will see who's getting paid #freethemonster
— Joseph Meyberg (@JosephMeyberg) October 10, 2014
So the person who snitched on Gurley, made money off of him and now doesn't want to be identified or contacted. Coward
— Jamal (@landoughcal) October 10, 2014
And of course, someone has to have fun with this….
Dang it! I paid Todd Gurley 20 bucks to sign an autograph for me tomorrow and I just heard he isn't gonna show up! Not cool Todd.
— Austin (@Moudyman32) October 10, 2014
And those who sounded off on the candelight vigil:
Isn't the "vigil" for Gurley at UGA kinda saying that he's basically dead/worth nothing if he's not playing football?
— The Unethical Slut (@soil_mate) October 10, 2014
So what are your thoughts on this? Is the university or the NCAA overreacting? Does the punishment fit the (alleged) crime?
