St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright said his elbow is fine, and his biggest issue has been how people and the media are overreacting to the soreness.

Adam Wainwright has been dealing with soreness in his elbow for most of the St. Louis Cardinals’ run this MLB postseason, after experiencing some elbow tendinitis earlier this season, but the right-handed ace insists his arm is fine and says the entire issue is “overblown.”

Insisting

that Wainwright is fine has become commonplace for the Cardinals these playoffs, and Wainwright has yet to miss a playoff start, so maybe that’s the truth coming out of St. Louis. He’s the Cardinals’ ace, and is likely better than a lot of pitchers, even at less than 100 percent health.

But Wainwright wasn’t great in his Game One start of the NLDS, although St. Louis did win that game. The only month this season where he was even remotely awful was in August, when in 38.1 innings he had a 5.17 ERA, but he was much better in September, with a 1.38 ERA in 39 innings pitched. Both months are too small a sample to truly analyze, but it seems to indicate that as long as the elbow isn’t getting worse, Wainwright can still be effective in the NLCS.

Game One of the NLCS will be at 8 p.m. Eastern tonight, when Wainwright and the Cardinals will host the San Francisco Giants at Busch Stadium.
