ALCS Game 2, Royals vs Orioles final score: Royals win 6-4, take 2-0 series lead
By Hayden Kane
The Kansas City Royals rallied in the 9th inning, scoring two runs as they went on to win 6-4 to take a 2-0 series lead over the Baltimore Orioles.
Remember when the Kansas City Royals used to lose baseball games? Those were strange times. Perhaps now would be another time to remind you that the Royals were down to their last ups, twice, against the Oakland Athletics in the AL Wild Card game. That is a far cry from where we are now, as the Royals came through in the 9th inning once again and won Game 2 of the ALCS by a final score of 6-4 to take a 2-0 series lead over the Orioles in the ALCS.

The Royals entered the 9th inning of this game with the score tied at 4-4. Closer Zach Britton was on for the Orioles. Coming off a rough outing in Game 1, Britton was looking for a quick rebound to get his team to the bottom of the 9th with the score still tied.
That did not work out in his favor. Alcides Escobar delivered an RBI double and Tarrence Gore ran fast to score the go-ahead run. Lorenzo Cain then singled to drive in an insurance run as the Royals took a 6-4 lead. From there it was another day, another game where the Royals’ bullpen worked clean innings late. Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis, and Greg Holland were nails again.
Once you get past the 6th inning, you probably won’t score runs against the Royals. As long as the Kansas City offense is scoring clutch runs late in the meantime, this is going to be a hard team to beat.
Neither starting pitcher went too deep into this game. Bud Norris didn’t make it out of the 5th inning for the Orioles, surrendering four earned runs on nine hits. Yordano Ventura pitched into the 6th inning, allowing four earned runs before exiting with tightness in his pitching shoulder.
On the offensive side of things for the Orioles, Adam Jones did his part to keep his team in the game. Coming up in a big spot in the middle of this game, Jones blasted a two-run home run to tie the game at 3-3. He then contributed a key hit in the 6th inning when the Orioles tied the game at 4-4. That was the end of Baltimore’s offense on this night, and once again the Royals were the team to come through late for the win.
So Mike Moustakas is hot. He had two hits and another home run in this game. The embattled third baseman now has four home runs in the playoffs, all from the no. 9 spot in the order. The aforementioned Lorenzo Cain also came through big-time for the Royals, delivering four hits, stealing another base, and adding to his highlight reel in the outfield.
The Royals are 6-0 in the 2014 postseason. They are headed home with a 2-0 lead and a chance to clinch a World Series berth in front of their home fans. These are crazy, happy times in Kansas City.
