New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony is preparing for another work stoppage in 2016
We lost games in the 1998-1999 season and once again in the 2011-2012 season.
According to New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony, we should be prepared for another work stoppage in the 2016-2017 season.
“I think we have to prepare for a work stoppage,” Anthony said via Ian Begley of ESPN New York. “And that’s the worst-case scenario at this point in time. So I think guys should start preparing for that now. I don’t think you really have to focus and think about it at this stage. But just keep in the back of your mind that it is a [possibility].”
Cleveland Cavaliers’ star LeBron James shares those sentiments but doesn’t believe the owners have any advantages this time around.
“The whole thing that went on with the last negotiation process was the owners was telling us that they were losing money. There’s no way they can sit in front of us and tell us that right now after we continue to see teams selling for billions of dollars, being purchased for $200 million, [selling] for 550 [million], 750 [million], $2 billion,” James said. “And now [Mikhail] Prokhorov is possibly selling his majority stake in the Nets for over a billion. So, that will not fly with us this time.”
The NBA has survived both lockouts so far and luckily it really hasn’t hurt their popularity.
Carmelo Anthony put up 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and shot 45.2% from the field, 40.2% from beyond the arc and 84.8% from the free throw line last season. Carmelo Anthony has gone for 25.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 45.5% from the floor, 34.5% from beyond the arc and 81.1% from the charity stripe in his career.
