Freshman phenom Deshaun Watson is out for Clemson with a broken throwing hand

Deshaun Watson exited the Clemson Tigers game against the Louisville Cardinals in the first quarter with what appeared to be a finger/hand injury with the Tigers offense struggling mightily against the Cardinals defense.

Watson was ruled out for the game with what was reported as an injury to his throwing hand, but as the two teams went to halftime Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney informed the nation that his freshman quarterback and one of the nation’s most efficient passers suffered a fracture to his throwing hand.

The former top recruit injected life to the Tigers offense before he ultimately was named the team’s starter over Cole Stoudt after the loss to the Florida State Seminoles last month and was second in the nation to Marcus Mariota with a 197.9 quarterback rating and had 12 touchdowns to only one interception entering the game.

Prior to leaving with injury, Watson was 2-of-6 passing with minus-five yards and an interception.

Clemson holds a 14-10 lead over Louisville in the opening minutes of the second half with Stoudt going 10-of-16 for 74 yards as the Tigers look to overtake the Cardinals in the ACC Atlantic.

No word yet on how long Watson will be out, but it would appear that Stoudt will be under center at least for next week’s game at Boston College.
