The Dallas Cowboy have gotten off to an outstanding start at 4-1.
Two of the biggest reasons for their success are wide receiver Dez Bryant and and running DeMarco Murray.
Both stars will become free agents in the offseason and neither appears to be that close to a contract extension. However, Stephen Jones doesn’t believe the team will get extensions done during the season.
“I think it’s very difficult,” the Cowboys chief operating officer said Friday afternoon on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “Everybody’s focused on the season at hand. You try to get some of those things done early on. I would never rule it out. We would certainly sit down with anybody at any time and see if something made sense. Our goal is to keep good football players in our organization. [Murray and Bryant] are obviously tremendous players on the field, but the better thing is they are great competitors and they’re great people off the field, and really becoming leaders in our organization.”
The Cowboys say they aren’t worried about extensions and that they plan on keeping both players.
DeMarco Murray has rushed for 670 yards and five touchdowns on 130 carries while catching 15 passes for 124 yards. In his four-year NFL career, he’s rushed for 3,351 yards and 20 touchdowns on 672 attempts and has 129 receptions for 908 yards and one touchdown. The Cowboys selected DeMarco Murray, a former Oklahoma Sooners’ star, with the 71st-overall pick in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Dez Bryant, the 24th-overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, has 32 receptions for 376 yards and three touchdowns this season. In his career, the former Oklahoma State Cowboy has 325 receptions for 4,480 yards and 44 touchdowns.
