Drew Stanton clears concussion protocol
By Hayden Kane
Drew Stanton has cleared concussion protocol and should be available to start at quarterback in week 6 for the Arizona Cardinals.
Sports will put you in strange positions and make you say funny things. Right now, Arizona Cardinals’ fans might be saying to themselves, “Thank goodness Drew Stanton might be able to play.”

That very well might be the refrain as the Cardinals try to figure out just who the heck is going to play quarterback for them this weekend. Carson Palmer is still dealing with a strange and disconcerting nerve issue in his shoulder, Stanton had to clear concussion protocol, and rookie Logan Thomas was clearly in over his head when he made his debut last Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
As they continue to assess Palmer and his possible availability, the Cardinals can at least rest assured with the knowledge that Stanton is available if they need him after he was cleared to play on Friday.
All signs point to the Cardinals starting either Stanton or Thomas this week, so this was certainly welcome news for them.
If nothing else, Stanton has proven that he can be effective as a back-up quarterback in the NFL. Playing on a roster that is talented in a number of other spots, Stanton has shown that he can keep his team in games and move the ball enough so that they can win without their starter in there.
So far in 2014, Stanton has thrown for 529 yards and two touchdowns. More importantly, he has yet to turn the ball over. With their talent on defense and at the skill positions, the Cardinals don’t need much more than that to be a relevant team in the NFC.
