Mississippi State was on a roll after their upset win over Texas A&M last week and that continued this week at they rolled over No. 2 Auburn.

Dak Prescott has a lot of momentum going for him in the Heisman Trophy race and that has continued into this week as Mississippi State rolled over Auburn 38-23 in Starkville. But while Prescott will get credit for the win thanks to his being the face of Mississippi State, he actually had a rather poor game when considering him as a Heisman candidate.

More from College Football

Prescott threw for under 300 yards and tossed two interceptions against Auburn, but the team managed to get past those mistakes to secure the win. It was the mistakes of Auburn that ended up bailing out the Bulldogs time after time, as Nick Marshall sealed things late in the game with an interception with under three minutes left to go.

It wasn’t all bad for Prescott though, as he started things off with a 34-yard touchdown pass to De’Runnya Wilson.

From there, Mississippi State jumped out to a 21-0 lead before allowing Auburn to score 20 unanswered points and claw their way back into the contest. Things got rough for the Bulldogs in the second quarter, as it was by far the worst they’ve played all season.

On three consecutive drives, Mississippi State ended things with an interception — two of those came courtesy of Prescott.

Mississippi State hung in there though and never trailed in the game once. No matter the pitfalls they ran into, the team was resilient to the end and never gave Auburn a chance to breath.

The win gives Mississippi State another signature win on the year, as they’ll be moving up to No. 2 in the country and possibly even No. 1 in the country if the voters are rough on Florida State.

Either way, the Bulldogs are the darlings of college football as they’re running away in the Top 25 towards a postseason in which more than a few outside fans will be pulling for them.
