New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan says the Jets hope to “create doubt and hesitation” for Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Peyton Manning is only five touchdown passes away from tying Brett Favre’s all-time NFL record.

Rex Ryan is desperately hoping the record doesn’t fall this week.

“I’m not going into the game thinking we’re going to give up five touchdown passes,” Rex said. “He’s beaten me enough through the years. He doesn’t need to break the record against me.”

The Jets defense has a tall task in front of them. While they might not give up five passing touchdowns, there’s a great chance that Manning will have an outstanding game against a rather porous pass defense. The Jets have allowed 12 touchdown passes so far this year, trailing only the Eagles, who have given up 13.

Jets linebacker David Harris calls Manning the best quarterback of all time and also says Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is “probably the best receiver in the game right now.”

Combined with tight end Julius Thomas and wide receivers Wes Welker and Emmanuel Sanders, that Denver offense is poised to feast on Sunday.

Ryan and the Jets say their goal is to “create some doubt and hesitation” for Manning by disguising blitzes and pass coverages.

That’s going to be tough, since Manning has seen every type of defense imaginable. Still, Ryan’s Jets are 2-1 against Manning since Ryan became the head coach in 2009. One of those wins was a playoff game.

Smart money says that Peyton Manning probably won’t tie (or break) Favre’s record this week. But you can bet he’ll definitely make some progress towards that goal.
