Richard Sherman will not line up at safety again

Richard Sherman lined up at safety this past Monday night as the Seattle Seahawks took on the Washington Redskins this past Monday night. Do not expect that to happen again anytime soon.

Sometimes Richard Sherman gets bored. He’s just looking for something to do out there. This is not something that the boisterous cornerback is quiet about, of course, as he has talked about teams staying away from him and even made signs like he was yawning on the field during the game.

Perhaps to give Sherman some excitement or to keep him interested, or perhaps because of a schematic decision, the Seahawks had Sherman lined up at safety for some action on Monday. The results were not good.

As such, Sherman will not be lining up at safety again. As told by the man himself, from ESPN.com:

"“Yeah, I don’t think we’re going to be doing that again,” Sherman said with a chuckle.Free safety Earl Thomas couldn’t resist taking a little dig earlier this week at his buddy Sherman, who got caught in a spot where he normally wouldn’t be on the 60-yard touchdown reception Monday night by Washington receiver DeSean Jackson.“Sherman was trying to play safety,” Thomas said. “That should teach him a valuable lesson about the guys that are behind him. It’s hard back there.”"

Head coach Pete Carroll explained the decision in football terms:

"“Richard was in a half-field situation back there that he’s not in very often,” Carroll said. “But that was a little my fault. I shouldn’t have put him there.”"

It seems safe to assume that the Seahawks will not even consider this move when they are playing a quarterback who isn’t named Kirk Cousins. Sherman will go back to his spot at corner, with a great view of the game as teams stay away from throwing to his side of the field.
