Indiana Pacers’ guard Rodney Stuckey says he’ll shoot more in regular season
Rodney Stuckey has a reputation for being, well, a ball hog. Last season, Stuckey had a usage rate of 24.3 percent. That’s higher than infamous ball guzzler Jordan Crawford and guys who should have the ball more like Chris Paul.

For the Indiana Pacers, who signed Stuckey this summer, his tendencies won’t be a bad thing. In the wake of losing Paul George for the season and Lance Stephenson to the Charlotte Hornets, the Pacers will need someone to create shots. Stuckey figures to be the man for the job, but has’t been doing so early on this preseason. From Candace Buckner for the Indianapolis Star.
"“Just getting acclimated to everything, understanding each other’s skills, figuring out the system and stuff like that,” Stuckey explained. “It’s going to take time.” […]“I think once the regular season comes, I’m going to have more shot attempts,” said Stuckey, who then smiled and said the words you’d expect from a man with a reputation as his: “Forget that! Seven’s not enough!”"
In an interview with Grantland’s Zach Lowe, Pacers coach Frank Vogel was optimistic about Stuckey, saying he’ll be relied on to create offense for the Pacers off the dribble and will be one of their premiere players on the wing.
While that isn’t very reassuring for Pacers fans, it is probably the best they can do for now. It’s interesting that Stuckey isn’t being as aggressive, though, during preseason. However, Vogel also noted on the podcast that analytics drive much of how he sets up his offensive and defensive schemes. For Stuckey, that will take some getting used to.
