Safety Kam Chancellor is questionable with a hip injury and the Seattle Seahawks made a move Saturday to add depth to their secondary.

With safety Kam Chancellor questionable for the Seattle Seahawks as they prepare to host the Dallas Cowboys Sunday, the team made a move Saturday to add some depth to the secondary.

The Seahawks signed safety Steven Terrell from their practice squad and waived defensive end Greg Scruggs.

Chancellor injured the hip that he didn’t have offseason surgery on during last week’s win over the Washington Redskins.

If he can’t go, Jeron Johnson would start at strong safety. Johnson normally backs up free safety Earl Thomas, so that is where Terrell comes in.

Terrell was an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M in 2013 and spent time on the practice squads of the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

He signed with the Seahawks in July and was among their final cuts before joining the practice squad.

Scruggs, a seventh-round pick out of Louisville in 2012 by Seattle, played 11 games in 2012 and had two sacks, but had not been active for a game this season. He spent 2013 on the physically unable to perform list.

Terrell, 24, had 17 tackles in four preseason games for Seattle, including eight against San Diego in the second week of the preseason.

Chancellor, one of the biggest defensive backs in football at 6-foot-3 and 232 pounds, was selected by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2010 draft out of Virginia Tech.

He is a two-time Pro Bowler and has 31 tackles, two pass breakups, one interception and one forced fumble this season.
