Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton must really like his Beats by Dre headphones … he risked a $10,000 fine from the NFL to wear them in pregame warmups.

Cam Newton must really like his Beats by Dre headphones.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback had them on during pregame warmups Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, where the Panthers were preparing to take on the Bengals.

That comes despite a new edict from the NFL banning all headphones that aren’t from Bose after agreeing to a

partnership

with Bose last spring.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was fined $10,000 last week after showing up to a press conference with his Beats on.

Players aren’t prohibited from wearing headphones made by other manufacturers, but under league policy the logo has to be covered up if they are not made by Bose.

According to ESPN.com, players can wear headphones with competing logos off the bus, into the stadium and on the field for warmups.

So it would seem that Newton’s bank account is safe.

However, the league also said that the competing headphones are banned whenever a player might be on camera. As evidenced by the tweet above, Newton was on camera wearing (gasp!) illegal headphones.

The NFL may be the biggest professional sports league in North America, but it also leads the nation in silliness. Uniform police, headphone fines and longer suspensions for marijuana use than performance-enhancing drug use are just a few of the things that make fans shake their heads in disbelief.
