The Cardinals were able to pull off a 30-20 victory over the Redskins at home in the University of Phoenix Stadium, only losing their lead once during the course of the game when the Redskins pulled ahead by three points in the second quarter.
The story of the game came before the matchup even began, when the Cardinals announced that quarterback Carson Palmer would start for the first time since Week 1 of the season. He has been out with an auxiliary nerve issue in his shoulder inflicted early on, but was confirmed as the game’s starter over Drew Stanton during the pre-game intros. Palmer’s return went well – he completed 28-of-44 passes for 250 yards with touchdown tosses to Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald.
It seems that the Redskins will be unable to meet with much success while Kirk Cousins starts; although the backup toes the line of playing well enough to start in the NFL, he lacks the consistency needed to win a game. This is the second game in as many weeks that saw the Washington squad narrow their margin of loss during the middle of the game, only to lose their grip on any sort of dominant play with just enough time for their opposition to pull ahead and secure a solid margin of victory.
Once again, Cousins hit the leaderboard for passing yards (354) and DeSean Jackson achieved his goal of two straight games with 100+ yards (Jackson finished with 115 yds), yet the two were unable to lead their team to victory once again.
Going into week seven of the season, the Redskins will be sitting with a disastrous 1-5 record, while the Cardinals have improved their own record to 4-1.
