Derek Carr will start at quarterback as the Oakland Raiders take the field for week 6 against the San Diego Chargers.
The Tony Sporano era, charitable though that use of the word “era” might be, will start on Sunday for the Oakland Raiders. As it does, it will start with rookie quarterback Derek Carr under center.

Carr has shown signs of promise in a difficult situation in Oakland. Playing for a team that lacks the kind of supporting cast that can actually set a rookie quarterback up for success, Carr has been able to hold his own and make plays from time to time.
If nothing else, he surely gives the Raiders a better chance to win than Matt Schaub or Matt McGloin.
The news hit early on Sunday morning that Carr will start.
Despite being listed as questionable for today's game vs. San Diego with ankle and knee injuries, Raiders QB Derek Carr will start.

The #Raiders begin the Tony Sparano era with rookie QB Derek Carr under center, source says. As he hoped, he healed up from London nicely.

Now the Raiders will just have to hope that they can keep Carr upright and avoid any situations where he might re-injure either his knee or his ankle.
Carr has completed 63.4% of his passes for 734 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions so far this season. Those numbers are good for a 47.9 QBR and a 75.2 QB rating.
Carr’s statistics are nothing to get excited about on their own, but considering the fact that he was thrown into the fire as a second round pick on this Raiders team, he has acquitted himself nicely thus far. The Raiders will hope he can continue to do so this week coming off a couple injuries.
