The Los Angeles Kings won’t have Jake Muzzin back in time for Winnipeg game, but could have him soon

The Los Angeles Kings, it seems, need all the help they can get.

The team’s first two matchups have been less than stellar; they fell in a 4-0 shootout opening night to the San Jose Sharks, and lost in overtime Saturday night to the Arizona Coyotes. The Coyotes came by their victory with three unanswered goals and a backup netminder, while the Kings have yet to see anyone score who isn’t on their infamous ‘seventies line’ of Tanner Pearson, Jeff Carter, and Tyler Toffoli.

Hopefully, though, the team will finally have 25-year-old Jake Muzzin back in the lineup soon, as the blue liner says he is just waiting for his doctor’s ‘okay’.

The defenseman has been out with an undisclosed injury for the start of the season; although Muzzin claims he’s not in any pain, head coach Darryl Sutter calls the injury ‘frustrating’.

Muzzin was one of the team’s players who really stepped up during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, pitching in with six goals and six assists during the team’s road to the championship. He may not be able to add any more scoring power to the team’s offense, but could pitch in as a two-way player from his own position.

The Kings will play the Winnipeg Jets Sunday night without Muzzin in the lineup, though, meaning that key players such as Anze Kopitar, Marian Gaborik, and Dustin Brown will need to perform at the level the team’s fans expect from them. The Pacific Coast team is heading into their third game of the season with a 0-1-1 record.
