Mayo was injured while tackling Buffalo Bills running back Anthony Dixon.
Once Mayo was attended to by the New England Patriots training staff, the cart was called onto the field and Mayo made a trip to the locker room. New England was already without Dont’a Hightower, so the team will need to find a linebacker who is capable of stepping up.
After Mayo left the field with his injury, Kyle Orton drove the Bills down the field for the equalizer.
The Patriots have yet to officially comment on the status of Mayo, but it does not appear that he will be able to return on Sunday afternoon.
