St. Louis Rams quarterback Austin Davis was a total unknown a few weeks ago, but that’s changing so much that coaches are now admitting they regret overlooking him in the draft.

Austin Advis is going to get yet another start with the St. Louis Rams this weekend, and the quarterback is starting to turn heads. No one is priming a bust in Canton for him yet, but there has been some admitted regret by NFL teams about overlooking a guy who seems like a decent starting prospect.

San Francisco 89ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is one of those guys regretting not paying more attention to Davis in the draft. According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Harbaugh wishes that he had been ‘more aware’ of Austin Davis in the NFL Draft process back in 2012.

This seems to send some mixed signals about Colin Kaepernick, but Niners fans has best fear nothing is out of place. If there has been anything established over the course of Harbaugh’s tenure as head coach in the NFL, it’s that he loves his quarterbacks and love to get as many as possible. He traded for Colt McCoy, he traded for Blaine Gabbert and there was rumored interest in Christian Ponder. None of those guys would or did challenge Kaepernick for the position as starter in San Francisco and it’s likely that neither would Davis.

But he’s clearly someone who is growing into a larger role in the NFL, and that’s something that Harbaugh sees and would have liked to have on his roster to either flip in a trade or have more consistency at the quarterback position behind Kaepernick.
