Jung-Ho Kang, a shortstop from Korea who clubbed 38 home runs in the Korean Baseball Organization this season, will be posted in November and will be open for bidding.

Major League Baseball teams will get a shot at a power-hitting Korean shortstop this fall when the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization plan to post Jung-Ho Kang.

Kang, who will be 28 in April, hit .360/.463/.756 in 107 games this season with 33 doubles, 38 home runs and 107 RBI.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported the news of the pending posting.

According to Cafardo, some scouts are intrigued by Kang’s power potential, but others are concerned whether his swing—complete with a long, slow leg kick—translates to the major leagues.

There is also concern about whether Kang can play shortstop at the big-league level, with some believing he profiles better at third base or second base.

2014 was a career year for Kang, whose previous career high was 25 home runs in 124 games in 2012. In nine seasons in the KBO, Kang has 137 home runs and is a lifetime .298/.382/.503 hitter.

Kang debuted in 2006 as a 19-year-old with the Hyundai Unicorns and moved in 2008 to the Woori Heroes.

That team became known as the Nexen Heroes in 2010.

The posting rules for Kang will be the old posting system, where the highest bidder in a blind auction will gain exclusive rights to negotiate.

Cafardo reported in September that the St. Louis Cardinals had some early interest in Kang, even though they would appear to be set on the infield with Matt Carpenter at third base, Jhonny Peralta at shortstop and Kolten Wong at second base.

Of course, there are rumors that the New York Yankees may be seeking a shortstop this offseason.
