Leafs’ Nazem Kadri not a fan of the jersey-tossing: “We don’t need fans like that”
Nazem Kadri is unamused by Toronto Maple Leafs fans tossing jerseys on the ice
The Toronto Maple Leafs have only made the playoffs once in the past decade, so it’s understandable for fans to be prematurely upset by the team’s two consecutive losses at the start of the season.

The fan who tossed his jersey on the ice during the Leafs’ 5-2 loss at home to the Pittsburgh Penguins, though, didn’t quite handle their disappointment in the most respectful manner- and forward Nazem Kadri wasn’t thrilled.
According to TSN’s Mark Masters, Kadri found the move disrespectful. “We don’t need fans like that,” he commented, expressing his distaste at the way the fan ran up the stairs slapping palms with all those he passed. “Once we string a few wins together he’ll be back in front of the line looking to purchase another jersey.”
The practice isn’t unheard of, but isn’t exactly common, either- it’s not the most respectful way to honor your team, and fans are as unamused as Kadri. Twitter saw an outcry from hockey fans across the league, criticizing the man for tossing his $200 jersey on the ice at the team’s second loss of the season.
The Leafs aren’t the only team sitting without a win as the season starts- the Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers, and Carolina Hurricanes have struggled out of the gates, as well. Toronto has one of the biggest fan bases in the league, though, and apparently the natives are getting restless.
