After trailing 10-3 at halftime, the Miami Dolphins scored three-straight touchdowns in the second half to take a 24-17 lead. But the Green Bay Packers scored 10 points in the final four minutes to get out of Miami with the win Sunday.
The Packers squashed a would-be comeback, winning 27-24 after Aaron Rodgers hit tight end Andrew Quarless with six seconds left to take the lead.
Dolphins linebacker Philip Wheeler had the coverage on the play. While taking some of the blame himself, Wheeler didn’t fail to mention that he thought he wasn’t put in the best position to succeed by defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle.
From ESPN.com’s James Walker:
"Miami linebacker Philip Wheeler sat in the locker room and fielded plenty of questions after giving up the game-winning touchdown with three second left in the game. Wheeler was beat on the outside by Packers tight end Andrew Quarless. According to Wheeler, he took some blame for not making a play but thought the defensive coaching also deserved blame. “It was 50 percent bad play call and 50 percent bad coverage,” Wheeler said. When asked to clarify, Wheeler said, “I feel like [Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers] figured us out towards the end. He knew we were in man-to-man and that I would have single coverage on the tight end.” The Dolphins failed to adjust on the final plays."
Coyle was a bit under the gun Sunday. After Joe Philbin decided to punt in Dolphins territory just before halftime, Coyle and Philbin were seen getting into it on the sideline. Wheeler’s comments after the game doesn’t help his standing, now taking heat between both his head coach and players.
