Game 3 of the ALCS between the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles has been postponed.

The Kansas City Royals came back to their home ballpark after having swept the first two games of the series against the Baltimore Orioles. Taking two victories at Camden Yards, the Royals are sitting pretty, and find themselves in a very good situation when it comes to advancing on to the World Series. They won’t win tonight however.

Game three has officially been postponed thanks to heavy rainfall in the Kansas City area. While it is raining currently, there also doesn’t appear to be any end in sight, forcing Major League Baseball to make a decision.

With the postponement, the Royals will now have to wait until Tuesday at the earliest, for their first shot to push the series to a 3-0 advantage.

Tonight, Jeremy Guthrie was scheduled to take on his former team and be opposed by Wei-Yin Chen. There has been no announcement as to what each team is planning to do with their probably pitchers. Tomorrow’s starters were slated to be Jason Vargas for the Royals, and Miguel Gonzalez for the Orioles.

Friday sits currently as a travel day, with the Royals set to host the next three at home. Should Kansas City fail to close out the series at home, needing only to win two out of the next three, the series would head back to Baltimore. The likely scenario would be games on both Saturday and Sunday, rather than game seven being played on Saturday.

At this point, rain may be the only thing that can stop the Royals. They have seemed like a team of destiny throughout the playoffs, and they keep coming up with that one big hit. Should they make the World Series, they may face the St. Louis Cardinals.

In 1985, the Royals knocked off that same Cardinals franchise in what would be their last postseason appearance prior to this season.

Look for ALCS Game 3 to be made up tomorrow night.
