Aqib Talib was able to make Floyd Mayweather Jr. some serious cash
Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib returned a last-minute interception for a touchdown to give the Broncos a 31-17 lead and to seal the game against the Jets. That interception’s impact wasn’t limited to the field, though, as a vast majority of those who’d bet on the game saw a wild swing of emotions as Talib’s unexpected touchdown helped the Broncos cover the 9.5 point spread in dramatic fashion. Among the biggest winners was boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr., who won more than a half million dollars on that play.

“Floyd didn’t watch the game here,” CG Technology’s vice president of race and sports, Jason Simbal, said via ESPN, “but he certainly showed up shortly thereafter to cash.”
And cash he did. Mayweather took home $1.4 million after betting $800k on the Broncos to cover the spread as they visited the New York Jets. He was one of millions to have the same fortune. The ESPN piece reports that over 95% of those betting on the game took Denver, dealing a major blow to Vegas oddsmakers upon Talib’s touchdown.
“The place went absolutely berserk,” MGM’s vice president of race and sports, Jay Rood, said to ESPN. “I kicked a hole in the wall. I’ll leave it as a reminder of my feelings toward Geno Smith.”
Don’t feel too bad for the bookies though. They made their money back on the Cowboys’ upset of the defending champs Seahawks in Seattle as well as the Oakland Raiders covering the spread against the San Diego Chargers.
