Daniel Briere scores 300th career goal, wins game in final second (Video)

Daniel Briere is in his first season with the Colorado Avalanche and scored his 300th career goal in dramatic fashion Monday afternoon in Boston.
Daniel Briere has always had a flair for the dramatic in his 17 NHL seasons.
Always a top playoff performer, the 37-year-old scored his first goal for the Colorado Avalanche Monday afternoon at TD Garden in Boston, delivering Colorado its first win of the season, 2-1.
Briere scored with 0.5 seconds to go in a tie game, shortly after the Avalanche had a goal waved off earlier in the third period.
To say the Avalanche had gotten off to a slow start would be a gross understatement—Colorado had been shut out in each of its first two games, a 5-0 loss at Minnesota on Thursday and a 3-0 loss to the Wild at home on Saturday.

The Avalanche ended their 143-minute scoreless skid to open the season when Jamie McGinn scored in the second period. Boston tied it on Loui Eriksson’s first goal of the year at 7:50 of the second period.
Colorado scrambled well in the offensive zone, winning battles for the puck to keep the play alive before Jan Hejda fired a shot on net that Briere knocked down.
That surprised Boston goalie Niklas Svedberg and he was out of position as Briere pushed the puck into the open net.
Colorado was a surprise playoff team a season ago, going 52-22-8 under first-year coach Patrick Roy, the Hall of Fame goalie who added the Jack Adams Trophy to his award case after leading the Avalanche back to the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
Briere became the 185th player in NHL history to score 300 goals. He signed with Colorado after scoring 13 goals and 25 points in 69 games for the Canadiens last season.
