Indiana QB Nate Sudfeld out for rest of season

The Indiana Hoosiers are 3-3 and need three wins to become bowl-eligible. That got more difficult with quarterback Nate Sudfeld out for the year.
Indiana quarterback Nate Sudfeld injured his non-throwing shoulder in Saturday’s loss at Iowa, but will miss the rest of the season. He needs surgery to repair the injury and coach Kevin Wilson announced the news on Monday.

Sudfeld had completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 1,151 yards and six touchdowns with three interceptions this season, his first as the undisputed starter. The junior split time last year with Tre Roberson, completing 60.2 percent of his throws for 2,523 yards and 21 touchdowns with nine picks.
He also had run for 98 yards and two scores this season.
The Hoosiers are 3-3 and face a tough second half as they try to gain the three wins they need to become bowl-eligible.
Indiana hosts Michigan State on Saturday and has road games remaining at Michigan, Rutgers and Ohio State as well as home games with Penn State and Purdue.
True freshman Chris Covington will inherit the starting job. Covington has seen action in five games, but is just 3-for-12 for 31 yards with two interceptions.
Roberson transferred to Illinois State last summer after completing 60.1 percent of his passes for 1,128 yards and 15 touchdowns with four interceptions and rushing for 423 yards and five scores last season.
The Hoosiers were 5-7 last year and haven’t been to a bowl since losing to Oklahoma State in the 2007 Insight Bowl.
