Once the Orlando Magic knew they had to trade Dwight Howard (and did so, sending him to the Los Angeles Lakers in a four-team trade involving the Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers), they decided to tear the whole thing apart.

They fired head coach Stan Van Gundy and general manager Otis Smith went with him. Former Oklahoma City Thunder executive Rob Hennigan was hired as GM and he tabbed Jacque Vaughn as head coach.

In his first two seasons, Jacque Vaughn has won just 43 total games. Of course, it would be unfair to expect much more with the talent on the roster. However, not that the Magic are in year three they need to begin seeing results even if that doesn’t mean getting into the postseason.

Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders believes Jacque Vaughn must build more trust with the Magic.

"Half of coaching is trust. The guys have to trust you. Trust that you are trying to help them get better. Trust that you are making decisions that are about winning. The problem with skippering a rebuild is that guys watch things happen that go against many of those concepts and that breeds distrust and that’s hard to break.Jacque has some trust to build, and that is when success will happen. I like Jacque, but coaches are hired to ultimately be fired and while Jacque is doing what the organization agreed they’d do, its time to win now and we’ll see if he can do that."

The Magic addressed their biggest issue in free agency – perimeter shooting – by signing veterans Channing Frye and Ben Gordon, which should help Vaughn get a few more W’s under his belt.
