Rookie Jarvis Landry is starting to make some strides for the Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins selected wide receiver Jarvis Landry with the 63rd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and were hoping that he could step up immediately in his rookie season. He has started the season off a bit slow, but came through with a huge game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Miami believes that Landry has the potential to be a playmaker each and every week, and he showed a bit of that potential yesterday.

Landry caught six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, while also returning two kickoffs for 91 yards. Those numbers were impressive, and Ryan Tannehill showed improved confidence in him as well, which is huge for the young receiver. Assuming he continues getting the type of target numbers that he received yesterday, Landry will have a great chance to prove himself to the league each and every week.

Miami hasn’t been playing up to their full potential this season, but the emergence of Landry will be very helpful for the offense. They were expected to take a step forward as a team this season and at least compete in the AFC East, but now they are 2-3 and third in the division. If they can step things up and turn them around soon, they will still have a chance to pass up the New England Patriots, who haven’t been playing amazing football either this season.

It will be intriguing to see how the aerial attack goes throughout the rest of the season as well. Tannehill has shown the potential of being a franchise quarterback, but he has also shown some major issues throughout his career as well. The rest of the season could be what makes or breaks his career with the Dolphins, and he needs to begin showing improvement.

All of that being said, seeing Landry become the type of talent that he has was a very encouraging sign. The Dolphins currently have Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, and Charles Clay as targets for Tannehill, but Landry is the target that could be the best threat that they have this year. He offers great speed, route-running, and hands, but as a rookie will need more experience.

Expect to see Landry continue improving with more playing time as the season goes along, and show more of the potential for the future that the Dolphins saw in him when they drafted him.
