Larry Fitzgerald was finally able to find the end zone on Sunday

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wasn’t getting antsy or impatient. He was biding his time, waiting for the game plan to unfold in a way that called for him. In the team’s Week 6 victory over the Washington Redskins, his name was finally called, and several times to boot, as the team won with offense once again thanks to Fitzgerald and the return of QB Carson Palmer.

More from Arizona Cardinals

Larry Fitzgerald had his best day of the 2014 season as he tallied six catches for 98 yards and his first touchdown of the season. It was a 24-yard pass from Palmer with just 24 seconds left in the first half to give the Cardinals a 14-10 lead.

“We got a favorable look,” Fitzgerald said of the touchdown, per ESPN. “(Cardinals quarterback) Carson (Palmer) gave me an opportunity. I just made a move and tried to fight my way into the end zone. It was a good play for us going in before the half.”

Palmer agreed on the impact of the play. “He obviously did a great job catching it, but he’s 225-pounds, he’s dragging guys into the end zone. Not surprised at all. I kind of felt like when I let the ball go, there’s a chance he was going to break a tackle and score.”

The Cardinals have been emphatic that they aren’t targeting a player in any game plan as much as they are a position or an opening. Or as the old NFL cliche goes, the team is content to take what’s given to them. Larry Fitzgerald hasn’t often been available in the passing game, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t made his impact.

The constant attention that Fitzgerald warrants has opened up the field for stalwarts Malcolm Floyd and Andre Ellington to attack the defense as the openings allow. At least this week it was Fitzgerald’s turn to cash in some pay dirt and help his team pick up another win.
