NC State has suspended seven players for role in BB gun incident

The hits just keep coming for the NC State Wolfpack. Unfortunately for the ACC school, the football team isn’t only losing on the field of late. Today, the football team lost seven players to a suspension, in relation to an incident involving a BB gun, that took place off of campus.

Suspended players include: Jerod Fernandez, Josh Jones, Johnathan Alston, Justin Jones, Pharoah McKever, Jumichael Ramos, and Mike Stevens. Fernandez is the team’s leading tackler while Jones is the Wolfpack’s starting safety.

On top of the suspensions, players Tyler Jones, Kalen McCain, Deyshawn Middlebrooks, Terronne Prescod and Maurice Trowell have been placed on probation for their involvement as well.

NC State head coach Dave Doeren released a statement saying, “These are good young men who made a mistake in not recognizing that this activity could have resulted in someone being injured. We have discussed this with them and they understand that they are being held responsible for their actions. The information was referred to the university’s office of student conduct as well. Our players admitted their mistake and we will help them learn from it.”

On the field, NC State is coming off of a third straight loss, this time to Boston College. Despite starting the season 4-0, ACC play has been anything but kind to the Wolfpack. After playing Florida State tough, NC State was blanked 41-0 by Clemson, prior to losing to the Eagles.

With on the field issues mounting for a struggling NC State squad, the off of the field distractions have to be more of an annoyance for Doeren.

While the story doesn’t go into detail in regards to what took place or how the incident shook out, losing two starters, one of which is your leading tackler, is never going to go well on the field.

NC State is back in action this weekend as they travel to Louisville.
