New York Giants’ rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has vowed to step up in the absence of Victor Cruz.
The New York Giants received some terrible news when Victor Cruz went down with a torn patellar tendon, but rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. knows the importance of stepping up without Cruz in the lineup. Beckham hasn’t had a good start to his NFL career, but he has shown some talent for the future. Now that he will be seeing the football thrown his way a lot more, he will have the chance to step up like he has vowed to Cruz and the Giants.

"“I told him, I said, ‘Big Bro, I’ve got you.’ I have to step up. All of the receivers have to step up. The offense. Everybody on the team has to step up. I just told him, I said, ‘I got you’ because he’s had me since Day One. That’s the only thing that I feel like is the right thing to do — play for him.”"
Those types of comments from a rookie are always encouraging, but he understands the seriousness of the injury and that the team must step up to fill his production. Cruz won’t be coming back this season, but the Giants still have a chance at making a run at the playoffs. All of the wide receivers will need to come together in order to make that happen.
Beckham has played in just two regular season games so far, catching six passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. He has dealt with some injury issues this year, most notably his hamstring. Now, he appears ready to get back out on the field at 100 percent and begin playing his game again.
There is no doubt that Eli Manning will enjoy playing with a wide receiver that possesses the speed that Beckham does, and he will cause issues for opposing defenses as well. At the age of 21, this is a big situation to be forced into, but he is ready for the challenge. Expect to see a strong season from Beckham from this point forward, and for him to follow through on his promise to Cruz.
