Former New York Mets general manager Omar Minaya may find himself back in New York- Only this time with the New York Yankees.

Omar Minaya’s tenure with the Mets ended horribly, but overall it was a good run. Minaya took a 71 win Mets team in 2004 and turned them into a 96 win team in 2006. Minaya’s Mets were one win away from making it to the World Series. After that game 7 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the fallout began for Minaya and the Mets.

In 2007 and 2008 the Mets collapsed late in the season to miss the playoffs and in 2010 Minaya was relieved of his duties as general manager. What people tend to forget is that Minaya stocked the Mets with young players such as Matt Harvey, Lucas Duda, Jeurys Familia, Jenrry Mejia, Jon Niese, Jacob deGrom, Dillon Gee, Juan Lagares and Daniel Murphy.

Minaya is close friends with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and it is very likely that Minaya will join the Yankees in the front office. The position that he would be is unknown, but the hiring would make all the sense in the world for the Yankees. With Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera now gone, the Yankees are entering a rebuilding period.

Minaya helped the Mets gain talented, young assets during their rebuilding period, so Minaya could help the Yankees as well. Besides, what a great feeling it would be for Minaya to help the Yankees win a championship, something that he couldn’t do with the Mets. Nothing is official yet, but this possibility makes perfect sense for both parties.
