Penn State football doesn’t want to actively court controversy, so the Nittany Lions will pass on a recruit from New Jersey’s Sayreville War Memorial High School.
Penn State is still in damage-control mode with its football program, so it’s not a real surprise that the Nittany Lions have dropped a scholarship offer to New Jersey running back Myles Hartsfield.
According to Ryan Snyder of Rivals.com via Twitter:
It's Official: #PennState will be moving on from Myles Hartsfield.

Hartsfield played at Sayreville War Memorial High School and has been linked to a disturbing hazing scandal at the school that has cancelled the rest of its season.
A three-star prospect according to Rivals.com, Hartsfield has not been directly connected to any charges related to a sexual hazing scandal within the Sayreville football program, police have been seen outside his home about the same time it was being reported that six or seven players were being charged for their involvement with the scandal.
Whatever Hartsfield’s involvement, Penn State has decided that he’s not worth the risk, regardless of his level of involvement with the goings on in Sayreville.
While it’s obvious that Penn State—still recovering from the Jerry Sandusky mess—doesn’t need any negative publicity associated with its recruiting class, one would think that any school would be wary of a player that might have been involved with a scandal that has seen seven players charged with sexual assault.
According to CNN.com, upperclassmen have been accused of sexually hazing freshman players.
According to Rivals, Hartsfield has offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Old Dominion, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
