Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt says Bishop Sankey is “getting better” and the Titans are “excited about him.”

The Tennessee Titans took on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and rookie running back Bishop Sankey saw his carries increase as he took over the starting role. He had a season and career high 18 carries on Sunday, his previous high was was 10 in Week 3.

He only managed to get 61 yards though, the same total from that Week 3 game. While that dip in yards per carry might be a disappointment, head coach Ken Whisenhunt is nothing but optimistic about the young player.

Whisenhunt chalked up nerves to his performance early on, but the maintained that the team is excited about Sankey and said that he is getting better every week.

The offensive line improving could do a lot to propel Sankey and the run game, but it is a unit that has failed to come together.

“Obvious we haven’t been together very long,” Whisenhunt said, via ESPN. “We interjected a new face to that group [in Taylor Lewan] this past week. We’re working. It’s a work in progress.

“It’s an offensive system change for those guys. We’ve got three guys that are really young players at that position if you talk about Taylor and [Brian] Schwenke and even Chance [Warmack]. When you think about some of the best offensive lines that have played in the NFL, the one thing that seems consistent with that is continuity, guys that have been together for a while, that have played together for a while.

“That’s what we are trying to accomplish here. I think we’ve got the right pieces in place. I think we’ve got to get time and continue to improve together. That’s really what is important.”

There could be a bright future ahead of the Titans and the run game.
