The Dallas Cowboys got a huge, and partially unexpected win, over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday to improve to 5-1. Owner Jerry Jones thinks his team should savor where they’re at.

“We know we can’t dwell on it, but we should smell the roses here just a little bit,” Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan, via ESPN Dallas. “I know we’re back to concentrating on the Giants and have got to, but our guys know they can do something today that they did not know they could do when we arrived in Seattle. That’s a material thing. That’s a tangible thing. That’s not intangible.”

Guess Jones doesn’t necessarily believe in the “don’t rest on your laurels” philosophy wholeheartedly. The last thing the Cowboys need to do is stop and smell the roses and get a little too cocky, there are still a lot of games left in the season to slip and we’ve seen teams struggle early in the season get hot and make a run and knock off teams that were successful early on.

That being said, a huge win over the defending Super Bowl champions is something to puff your chest out a little bit, and Jones can do that all he wants as long as the coaching staff and players keep their focus on the task at hand.

“Yesterday was a good win for our team. Can’t deny that. It’s a positive thing for our team in so many ways. Where we have to get better is at so many places and we’ll continue to focus on that,” head coach Jason Garrett said.
