As the offseason began, the New York Knicks made a major move. The Knicks dealt center Tyson Chandler and point guard Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks for guards Jose Calderon, Wayne Ellington and Shane Larkin, center Samuel Dalembert and two second round picks.
Although the Knicks will lose some defense without Tyson Chandler, Samuel Dalembert can give them minutes at center and Jose Calderon should provide an upgrade over Raymond Felton. So far, Jose Calderon is really enjoying his time in New York.
“It’s been great,” Jose Calderon told Ryan Wolstat of The Toronto Sun. “The most important part team-wise is great. I’m happy to be here, it’s been really good and (his) kids are great, family is good, my wife is happy there.”
Jose Calderon also seems very happy with his new head coach, Derek Fisher and the triangle offense that he and president Phil Jackson are implementing.
“It’s been great. (Fisher projects the) confidence that he’s been coaching for years now, I like that, I think everybody’s comfortable with him, but now it’s going to be about timing. New (Triangle) system, new game, new players, new coaching staff, so you need some time, but we’re on the right path we’ve got to keep going.”
If Jose Calderon can provide stability throughout the season, the Knicks could find themselves back in the playoffs.
Jose Calderon averaged 11.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 45.6% from the field, 44.9% from beyond the arc and 82.5% from the free throw line last season. In his nine-year career, he’s averaged 10.2 points, 6.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 47.9% from the floor, 41.1% from three and 87.4% from the free throw line.
