Klay Thompson’s father says his son is asking for a maximum contract and deserves to get one.
Klay Thompson’s contract situation has left many divided. Some believe that his shooting prowess and youth is deserving of an NBA max contract, which many believe is his asking price. Others think the Golden State Warriors shooting guard hasn’t proven enough to earn such a salary.

Not surprisingly, among those in the Klay-deserves-the-max camp is his father, Mychal Thompson.
The elder Thompson confirmed his son’s asking price on Monday and argued in favor of him receiving it on ESPN Radio.
From ibabuzz.com:
"“He’s going to get paid, but the question is how much is he going to get paid?” Mychal said Monday on the ESPN LA radio show he co-hosts. “You think he’s going to get the max? That’s what he’s asking for.”(…)“I think he is (a max player), but of course, I’m his dad,” Mychal said. “You know what, though? If he wasn’t, I would say it. I can be honest about it.“I think he is. I really do. His game’s really evolving, getting better, and he really puts in the work, got a great work ethic. And he’s the kind of guy that you can trust. You know when you give him the money, he’s not going to stop working hard.”"
It certainly will be interesting to see how Thompson’s situation pans out. One would think that the Warriors will ultimately pony up the money for him, considering the team basically chose keeping Thompson over trading for Kevin Love this summer.
Thompson averaged 18.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game this past season with the Warriors.
