Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos registered his eighth career hat trick last night in the Lightning’s 7-1 rout of the Montreal Canadiens.

Last night at the Amalie Arena, the Tampa Bay Lightning utterly stunned the Montreal Canadiens with a 7-1 rout that essentially handed the Canadiens their first loss of the 2014-15 National Hockey League season.

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman had a spectacular night registering four points – one goal and three assists – which rocketed him past New York Islanders center Brock Nelson and Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby for the points lead in the National Hockey League.

Despite the spectacular night registered by Hedman, and the amazing kick save made by Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman (which you really should see for yourself,) there was one moment that resounded throughout the entire evening and helped propel the Bolts over the Habs.

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos not only broke his scoring drought that plagued him in the first few games this season, but he notched his eighth career hat trick.

The first goal was a result of an intense battle in front of the net. This is something the Lightning really struggled with last season. Thankfully, it seems as if they have that under control now.

The second goal was pretty spectacular. Victor Hedman launches the puck across the ice (did we mention how amazing Hedman played last night) and directly finds Stamkos on the breakaway. Stamkos made finding the five hole on Canadiens goaltender Carey Price look easy as the puck sailed into the back of the net.

The third goal came in classic Stamkos fashion with a lightning fast shot that soared into the net. That goal would be the one that would put the final pin in the coffin known as Carey Price’s night.

Unfortunately, the Lightning don’t have very long to celebrate their much-needed win. They head back into the Amalie Arena tonight to square off with the New Jersey Devils in their final game of their four-game opening home stand. Will we see the same kind of play that we saw last night? We’ll just have to watch and find out.
