Once James Franklin left the Vanderbilt Commodores to become head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions, it was obvious the next coach was going to have trouble sustaining Franklin’s success. Vanderbilt tabbed Stanford Cardinal defensive coordinator Derek Mason as the man for the job and he has struggled early.
Vanderbilt is 2-5 and their lone wins are a 34-31 come-from-behind victory over the Massachusetts Minutemen and a 21-20 victory over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. Aside from a 17-7 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats and a 48-34 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks , Vanderbilt has not been competitive in their losses (37-7 to the Temple Owls, 41-3 to the Ole Miss Rebels and 44-17 to the Georgia Bulldogs).
They will obviously be looking to finish the season strong and rebound in 2015. On Tuesday, Vanderbilt released their entire 2015 schedule, highlighted by a home dat with Georgia in week 2.
