Despite three second half interceptions in Week 6, QB Kirk Cousins will get the start for the Washington Redskins in Week 7.
Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden will assess just about everyone and everything after the team’s loss in Arizona. However, even after watching him throw three more picks against the Cardinals, Gruden won’t bench quarterback Kirk Cousins in favor of third-string QB Colt McCoy.

Washington has lost four straight games on the back of some awful performances. However, the game in Arizona wasn’t such a performance for Cousins — at least until the fourth quarter, when Cousins threw all three of his picks. The last pick was returned for a touchdown with 18 seconds left to give Arizona the final victory margin of 30-20. Still, just because Cousins is safe, doesn’t mean anyone else is.
“We have to look at the guys in our plan,” Gruden said via The Washington Post. “There’s a reason why we have the guys in front of them, but we’ll see if there’s a way we can upgrade our roster. Mainly I’m looking at maybe ways to prepare, practice, our practice schedule. I’m looking at something, you know. You have to do something a little bit different. Obviously status quo is not doing so well.”
In five games played this season, Cousins has piled up 1,571 passing yards with 10 touchdowns to 8 interceptions. However, 7 of those picks have come in just two games while Cousins has maintained better than a 60% completion rate in that same stretch. They may not be fantastic numbers, but they’re likely better than anything the team would see from Colt McCoy. Expect the Redskins to stick with Cousins through thick and thin until Robert Griffin III is ready to hit the field once more.
