Baltimore Orioles’ first baseman Chris Davis will still have one game left on his 25-game PED suspension when opening day arrives for the 2015 MLB season.

There was some hope for the Baltimore Orioles that they would get slugging first baseman Chris Davis back in the lineup during the postseason. There was even some consideration given, however briefly, to the idea that Davis should have been placed on the ALCS roster for his potential reinstatement prior to Game 6.

It didn’t matter. The Orioles never saw a Game 5 or a Game 6, having been swept by the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS. I suppose that validates the decision to leave Davis off any postseason roster.

Their swift elimination in the ALCS raises another issue for Davis, however. He still has one game left to serve on his suspension.

Count this as one of a number of hypothetical scenarios that the Orioles were hoping to have the opportunity to tackle with a longer run in these playoffs. Alas, they joined the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels as teams that have been victimized by the buzz saw that is the Kansas City Royals.

Davis played 127 games for the Orioles this season, batting just .196/.300/.404 with 26 home runs and 72 RBI. He is arbitration eligible this off-season and will be a free agent after the 2015 season.
