Miguel Cabrera’s ankle bothered the slugger for most of the second half of the 2014 season, but the Detroit Tigers haven’t decided yet if the first baseman needs to go under the knife.

Cabrera dealt with bone spurs in his right ankle, which also limited him to just three home runs in more than 200 at-bats during the months of July and August. Cabrera rebounded with eight home runs in the last month.
Cabrera’s home run total still dropped to 25, down from 44 home runs the year before and his lowest power outage not only since joining the Tigers, but since his rookie year, when he had 12 dingers in 386 at bats.
That said, Cabrera was still pretty good in 2014. His OBP was down from 2013, but .371 is still good in that statistic. He also lead the league with a career-high 52 doubles, so it’s not like he couldn’t hit, he just couldn’t generate the power to drive the ball out of the park due to the ankle. He extended long-term with Detroit earlier this year, and will be with the Tigers until at least 2023.
