But after missing four games with a fractured ankle, Iosefa was suspended for three games in the wake of his arrest last weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence.
College Football Talk reported the suspension, citing a statement from the university athletic department.
"“I spoke with Joey early this morning and he is contrite, embarrassed and remorseful for his actions,” Hawaii coach Norm Chow said. “We have a set of core values and obviously he did not abide by them. After meeting with other members of the staff, the leadership council and athletic director Ben Jay, Joey will be suspended immediately and stripped of his captaincy.”"
Iosefa, a senior from American Samoa, had rushed for 197 yards and four touchdowns in Hawaii’s first two games before he was injured against Oregon State Sept. 6.
He led the Warriors in rushing last season with 590 yards in just five games. He was out for much of the season with a foot injury.
"“I apologize to my coaches and teammates, to my family, to the university and to our fans,” Iosefa said. “Coach Chow constantly reminds us that it’s a privilege to be a student-athlete here at the University of Hawaii. I will accept the consequences Coach Chow has laid out and hope to regain the trust of my coaches, teammates and the fans who have supported me and our football team.”"
Hawaii is 2-4 overall this season, but won its Mountain West Conference opener against Wyoming last weekend. The Warriors were 1-11 last season and last played in a bowl game in 2010.
