Kevin Love, Shawn Marion, Mike Miller and James Jones are among those that were interested in joining Cleveland in part because of James being on the team.
But LeBron wasn’t always able to have great success recruiting for the Cavaliers. James admitted Wednesday that he failed to recruit many talented players, including Miami Heat center Chris Bosh, to the Cavaliers during his first stint with the team that lasted from 2003-2010.
It’s pretty easy to understand why LeBron is having more success recruiting now than he did years ago. James has two championships to his name now, so when he sells players on competing for titles, they know he’s capable of backing up his talk.
Still, it’s interesting to think about what would have happened if someone like Bosh had joined Cleveland prior to 2010. Perhaps Cleveland would have been able to win a title, which certainly would have resulted in LeBron re-signing with the team four years ago.
Instead, LeBron and Bosh teamed up as members of the Miami Heat in 2010, winning two championships and making it to the NBA Finals in each of the four years they were teammates.
James, who averaged 27.1 points and 6.9 rebounds last season, came back to the Cavaliers this summer.
