Newly-signed right winger Simon Gagne will make his Bruins debut on the fourth line during Wednesday’s game at the Red Wings.
It looks like the fourth line will be the only one tweaked by the Boston Bruins as they head into Joe Louis Arena for the start of a three-game road trip starting in Hockeytown. Newly-signed Simon Gagne will make his debut on the right wing along with Ryan Spooner and Daniel Paille, and give the Bruins an interesting look with the speed and skill element.
The 34-year-old Gagne was signed by Boston on Monday, as the team looks to find an offensive spark in the early going. The Bruins entered Detroit tied for 27th with just four goals scored in their first four games.
At 1-3 thus far, the Bruins have not scored more than one goal since their 2-1 win over the Flyers on opening night. Since then, the team has been shut out by the Capitals while managing just one goal in losses to the Red Wings and Avalanche. Only Carl Soderberg (three points), Patrice Bergeron and Riley Smith (two points) have managed more than one point.
In Gagne, the Bruins get an experienced sniper, whose debut with Boston will mark his 800th NHL game. Gagne has seven seasons of at least 20 goals, including a career-high 47 with the Flyers in 2005-06. He has 288 career goals and 309 assists, playing most of his career with Philadelphia (1999-2010), Tampa Bay (2010-11) and Los Angeles (2011-13) before returning to play 27 games with the Flyers last season.
